Surprise

Two weeks passed in a blur. I was so busy with writing and tying up loose ends, it was already Thursday. We were settling into a routine—when Will had the kids, when they stayed with me. Going to my regular therapy appointment with my psychiatrist helped some, but I was still bummed that it was Will’s weekend to have the kids.

I parked in the garage and wandered in through the laundry room, checking a text from Samantha that had just come through. A huge man jumped out at me from around the corner as I walked in the door.

“Surprise!” Chase yelled while I screamed and hit him involuntarily with my purse.

“Eff! What the hell? You scared me to death. How did you get in here?”

Chase grinned. “Your kids love me. They let me in. Will came by and picked them up, but don’t worry. He didn’t know I was here.” He snickers as he picks me up and carries me to the couch and all thought of the kids vanish from my head from the way Chase is kissing me.

After a few minutes of making out on the couch, we slow down. “I hope you don’t mind the surprise. I knew Will had the kids for the long weekend, and The Warriors don’t have a show. Our next concert isn’t until Monday.”

“Of course not. This is great. You are welcome anytime.” I smile, and he kisses me sweetly before standing up and heading to the fridge. He returns with a cheese stick in his hand and stops at the back, sliding glass door. He was walking around like he owned the place.

“Nice view,” he observes, casually.

“Just make yourself at home, why don’t you?” I laugh, it doesn’t bother me much, I find it amusing.

He sees I think it’s a bit weird. “You said I’m welcome anytime.” He smiled, teasing me. “No, I’m sorry, Lexi. I just feel so comfortable around you. I swear there has been some sort of serious connection between you and me from the very first sight. From the minute I saw you, I felt this outside force pulling me—no-- pushing me to you,” he explained as he turned and gazed at me, instead of the Colorado view.

“Trust me. I felt it, too, or else plane sex with a stranger wouldn’t have happened.” I tried to explain, but it was hard to put into words such an intense experience.

“Well, I wasn’t exactly a stranger. You knew me from Instagram and the radio.” He laughed and winked. We both reminisced about our passionate act on the plane, and a moment passed. There was a spark in his eye as I bit my lip.

“Did you tour the master bedroom yet?” I asked.

“I haven’t. Is it nice?” He raised his eyebrows.

“Yeah, it’s nice.”

“You should probably give me a thorough tour of the master bed!” His eyes turned dark with need.

“I’m good with that.”

Chase came toward me and picked me up like a caveman would, throwing me over his shoulder to carry me up the stairs.
